Each of us comes to the job search in our own unique way and in whatever situation we find ourselves at that time. For some, it may be seeking a student job while going to school. It's a good idea to contact the Office of Student Employment, online or in person, to help with that particular need.
For many, it may be finding a job just after graduation, or for more seasoned alumni, perhaps changing careers to pursue a new work interest or to replace a job that went away. In either case, the steps on these pages are designed to get you started toward landing the job you need and want.
As we begin, a word of caution. Sometimes students or alumni tell us up front that they are looking for any job to fill immediate financial needs. Unfortunately, that approach makes it difficult for the job seeker to find a job, and equally important, difficult for an employer to recognize the job seeker as a candidate for their opportunity. So to start off, it's useful—even essential—to focus your search on some type or types of jobs that are a reasonable fit for your skills and experience. If you get stumped when following these job search tips and tools, you're welcome to contact a career counselor in the Office of Academic and Career Development. We will do our best to guide you through the steps to conduct a productive job search. Get started by clicking on the job search topics to the left.
